Backpacking Tips TV: Making a Stove from a Beer Can
By Ubertramp • Nov 20th, 2007 • Category: Backpacking Tips TVI don’t know how handy this tip will prove for backpackers on the road as you do need more than simply a beer can (and things that you probably won’t already have in your backpack). Although this video tip seems more suited to hiking/camping backpackers, it’s still pretty cool - and you never know, it may come in handy some day!
So here it is:- How to make a stove out of 2 old beer cans

WOW ! What a cool video ! Just wondering what’s the liquid that used ? heat liquid ?
Hi PK,
‘pretty ingenious, huh? Someone came up trumps when they designed that!
The heat liquid, as I understand it, is something normally used to help start cars. I think its an american product, and one we don’t have in the UK. I’ve been searching on the internet to find out more about it but have as yet to get to the bottomof it.
Does anyone out there know exactly what this stuff is and what its used for? If so, pelase leave a comment so we can shed a little more light on it and see what else could be used as a substitute (for those outside the US)
Thanks
Hopefully we’ll get to the bottom of this one. thanks for the comment!
I am going to try using kerosene …

Hopefully i don’t burn the house down : ))
Will let you know if it woks .. hah
Yup, it makes sense that it may work since its used in lamps and stoves - but you’ve gotta remember that its still a flamable liquid and you’ll have to take real good care if you do it.
I think I’d google a bit more and try and find out more first if it was me, though, and find out exactly what this heat is. I dunno, it may be a bit dodgy to go straight in and try it with something different.
If I find out more i’ll let you know!
Hey Nath,
I did try it ..
There’s a bit of flame, but nothing like the one seen in the video. Don’t think i can cook a instant noodles with it : )) But oh well, I had fun trying to make the stove.
haha PK, excellent. Sounds like you had fun.
Ah well, back to the drawing board…
When I find out more about the heat stuff I’ll let you know
Regards
Nath
